Eshu

1997

This floor piece was created for the Sixth Biennial of Havana and was exhibited there, together with Tres Buddha Madres in 1997.

Eshu is the 'Lord of the Crossroads', the mediator between men and the gods.

On his right, he holds a cigar and a wine bottle, for tobacco and alcohol are habits that he has retained in order to be better attuned to the astral plane of humans.

On his left s/he holds a living trident, used for lifting human garbage and man's coarse passion.

Eshu, like Dea, is another fantasy self-portrait.
